My Top 10 Music Videos of 2011

Lotus Flower – Radiohead

Thom Yorke dancing on the video!? I thought it was a joke. I was more intrigued than surprised.  I saw him get so mesmerized by his own music, closing his eyes, doing some kind of exorcist moves but I just didn’t think they’d actually put him dancing in their video. I mean, performers can do whatever on stage. Videos are sticky and more official. I didn’t think it was candid like some did. As a fan, it’s too awkward to see him that way.

Last Friday Night – Katy Perry

What!?  Hanson brothers and Kenny G. in the video of the Katy Perry, those cameo appearances are unexpected and worth noting. I give props to this video. It’s old school. It’s fun to see the after-party franks. And it’s just that Katy Perry is an eye-candy.

All of the Lights – Kanye West

This video has been identified by Epilepsy Action to potentially trigger seizures for people with photosensitive epilepsy.

Limit To Your Love – James Blake

If I had a glass of water on my dashboard when I first listened to his album in my car, the water probably created ripples just like the video. I was booming with pleasure knowing I also get that tangibility of his music when I felt it pulsating, palpitating, booming inside my car.

 Midnight City – M83

Sorry but I can’t help to think that they’re Xavier’s students escaped from the academy, running wild and free to exercise their powers outside the mansion.

Will Do – TV on the Radio

For a forgetful person that I am and the relationship I’m in right now, I would love to get my eye on that device.

Call It What You Want – Foster The People

The director sure just got a very very popular band to create a video for. He did an awesome job swaying to the obscurity side of the band. I don’t know who’s benefitting the most? The director or the band?

Holocene – Bon Iver

Not only the location sceneries of mountains, rocks, ice and water are stunning. The video is an incredible accomplished visual representation of Bon Iver’s music.

See, you get instant tour guide to a beautiful travel spot.

Countdown – Beyonce

Better believe it. She has topped Adele as that mainstream artist who’s getting all the critics approvals. Beyonce even outfitted Lady Gaga’s weird fashion sense. Katy Perry can get all the pop attention she needs. All the females got nothing on her, Beyonce’s album “4” and  the video “Countdown” are getting entered in many end-of-the-year countdowns.

Cruel – St. Vincent

There’s a lot of ways that can illustrate cruelty on a video. With that title, this one sure have to do it the best. This video is creepy. A little thought-provoking too. Watch.

Also, an special mention to Kina Grannis video of “In Your Arms” which is made with 280,000 jelly beans.

I like my list last year better.
