The Best of Crete: BALOS and Gramvousa

It is my over-the-hump period in Crete, Greece, and I think I may have just been to the best travel destination here.

“Paradise” is such an overused travel word so I try to steer clear from it, but I think I just found one that truly and completely justifies me using it this time.

I mean, look at that!!! It’s just Oh-My-God so pretty.

If you are ever here in Crete, I highly recommend you taking the ferry ride to Gramvousa and Balos.

Get to the Northwestern end of Crete going towards Kissamos. Follow the Port. Get on the ferry. It will first take you to Gramvousa.

Don’t be a wimp. πŸ˜€ Ascend to the Kastelli (Castle). You won’t regret it. You will see a most beautiful overlooking view of the island.

It is a piece of Heaven on Earth.

After Gramvousa, the express will continue to Balos. Here is a little tease of Balos…

Next post I’ll explore more on Balos …

I still have another 6 months here in Greece, but I really think Gramvousa and Balos will be THE meter against the rests of my travel plans here in Crete.

Music: On A Mission by Katy B. – Move over dance divas, Katy B. is on a mission to be the best Dance album of the decade in my book by far.
Movie: Inglorious Basterds – Who wouldn’t include a Quentin Tarantino film on their list of recommendations, eh? See also Django Unchained.

  1. That first photo is truly heaven ~ the water looks unreal, too perfect. At some point in time, I too hope to see the views of Gramvousa (and eventiually Balos). Wonderful and looks like you are truly enjoying yourself whenever possible. Cheers!

  2. Wow! How could it be possible to have such clean water? I just can’t imagine! Love these photos. I can tell that You have a lot of fun. Who wouldn’t at such a beautiful place?
    Have a great day!

    • The water and how clear they are is really insanely unbelievable here. It’s almost the same as looking at a glass of water and you can see the bottom of the glass. That’s how clear the water is here. Insane!

  3. I think the word “Paradise” definitely does apply here! Gorgeous! And I enjoyed the personal photos very much. It’s nice to see you in that fabulous environment. πŸ™‚

  4. The waters around Greece are so unbelievably beautiful! πŸ™‚ How is it over there, with all the political/economic turmoil? We’ve been following on the news, and it looks pretty stressful and chaotic, despite the insane natural beauty over there!

    • The Greeks are stressed about it. It’s bad all over Greece, but not as bad here on the island compared to like Athens. Funny, the day we went there was actually the day of the voting. And there was still a good number of people out and about tourist places. πŸ˜‰

    • It’s a crossing fingers and waiting games for Greeks right now. Us, foreigners, can really do is not stick it to their faces that we are not affected with their issues.

  5. Great photos…. the water is super, super clear.. love it! Probably won’t make it back to Greece in this lifetime… but never say never.. If we do make it I will make sure that we visit these two spotsl
